Compensation has been secured for a woman who suffered a crushed finger in an accident involving a faulty machine.
The woman, who worked for a food company, had been told to use the machine by her manager. Her finger was crushed when the lid of the machine slammed onto it. She had to take time off work and eventually resigned as the relationship of trust between her and the company had broken down. She was also unable to pursue her second job as a freelance writer for some time after the accident.
After she commenced a claim for damages, the company's insurer admitted liability for her injuries. Physiotherapy was arranged for her, and medical evidence was obtained confirming that she had fractured her finger and sustained an injury to her nail bed. She has made a good recovery but is expected to have some permanent symptoms.
An offer to settle her claim for £5,000 was rejected and, following negotiations, a settlement of £20,000 was agreed.
