Compensation has been secured for a man who suffered life-changing injuries in a climbing accident.
The man was taking part in a climb when his climbing partner allegedly released the rope without being instructed to do so, and did not communicate this to him. He fell 17 metres and sustained serious injuries, including multiple fractures. He spent nearly three months in hospital and underwent surgeries and rehabilitation.
After being discharged from hospital, he could only walk short distances using a walker and was dependent on his wife for care. He continues to experience pain and may require further surgery in the future. There is also a risk that his legs may have to be amputated.
He sought legal advice and brought a claim against his climbing partner, seeking damages of £1 million. His claim was subsequently settled for an undisclosed sum, without the need for a trial.
