Interim Payments Secured for Man Injured by Drunk Driver

Interim payments have been obtained for a young man who suffered life-changing injuries when he was hit by a drunk driver.

The man, who was 24 when the accident happened, was waiting at a bus shelter when a driver lost control of her vehicle and crashed into the shelter. The driver was arrested at the scene of the accident. She had been driving at 74 mph in a 30 mph zone and was found to be at nearly three and a half times the legal limit for alcohol. She was subsequently sentenced to two years and four months in prison for causing serious injury by dangerous driving, and was disqualified from driving for more than three years.

The man suffered serious injuries, including a fractured skull, a bleed on the brain and spinal fractures. He was in a coma for nearly a week after the accident and had to undergo multiple surgeries. He has had to give up his hobbies of running and playing sports, and the accident has also had an impact on his family.

After his relatives sought legal advice, an agreement was secured to fund rehabilitation to maximise his prospects of recovery. Interim payments were also agreed to help meet financial needs. He is awaiting an assessment to determine the effects of brain damage caused by the accident.
