Shop Assistant Obtains £10,300 Compensation for Trip

Damages have been obtained for a shop assistant who tripped over some shopping bags in the department store where she worked.

The 23-year-old shop assistant was working behind the tills when she tripped over the bags, which had been left on the floor, and fell. She suffered injuries to her wrist and knee and was unable to work for three months.

She brought a claim against her employer on the grounds that it had failed to provide a safe workplace and to ensure that walkways were free from hazards likely to cause trips, slips or falls. Medical evidence was obtained confirming the extent of her injuries.

Her employer's insurers admitted liability and a settlement of £10,300 was reached. This will compensate her for her loss of earnings as well as her pain and suffering.
