Compensation has been secured for a passenger on a cruise ship who suffered a serious ankle injury when she slipped on a puddle of water in her cabin.
She had previously reported that the toilet in her cabin was leaking, and believed that it had been repaired. However, when she went to the bathroom during the night, she slipped on the wet floor, fracturing her ankle. She underwent emergency surgery in Malta, and required a further stay in hospital after she returned to the UK. The accident significantly affected her mobility and independence.
She brought a claim against the provider of the cruise, which admitted liability. Interim payments were secured, allowing her to be provided with rehabilitation and to buy and adapt a bungalow.
Following negotiations, a settlement was agreed whereby she would receive £300,000 in compensation, in addition to funds to cover the costs of her ongoing rehabilitation.
