Woman Who Tripped on Poorly Lit Hotel Stairs Compensated

A holidaymaker has obtained five-figure damages for injuries she suffered in a fall on a flight of stairs in her hotel during a package holiday.

She was on her way to the hotel's restaurant when the accident happened. The lighting in one of the flights of stairs was broken and she tripped and fell, fracturing her ankle. She suffered ongoing pain and mobility issues.

She brought a claim against the package holiday provider. Medical evidence was obtained showing that, in addition to her physical injuries, the accident had left her with psychological distress. A course of cognitive behavioural therapy was therefore arranged as part of her claim.

After court proceedings were issued, the package holiday provider agreed to settle her claim for more than £15,000.
